What is mineral makeup?

Who founded BARE Natur-ALL?
“I’m Lili Heide, and since I can remember, I have been a die-hard beauty addict.
My love affair with makeup began when I was four years old. I used to play with my mother’s makeup and I realized then the power that makeup has; the ritual of opening the packages, the freedom to create any face you want, and the fun of playing with your features to bring your best face to life. I spent the rest of my life from that point learning everything I can about makeup. I had bins of makeup products. I tried it all. I wanted to perfect what every woman wants; that hyper-natural flawless look. After years of trying everything in the market, I noticed that although I had my weekday look down to a science, it still took up to 20 minutes to create (and there were more than a few mornings where that wasn’t an option. I needed a way to recreate the “flawless natural” look I had worked so diligently on in 5 minutes or less.
Nature gave me 5 tools on each hand. I wanted to use just my fingers or sometimes a Q-tip to create my look. Not willing to believe that my trusted friend cosmetics had turned their back on me, I began to research how makeup is made. I threw myself into researching every ingredient in my favorite products. I made lists. I researched things I couldn’t pronounce. I decided if the ideal products wouldn’t come to me, would make them. My kitchen soon became a mad scientists lab of foundations and eye shadows. Instead of leftovers, I had trays of lip balm stored in my fridge. After a hard day’s work, I had liquid foundation under my fingernails. I tested the makeup ceaselessly. I got my prep time in the morning down to 5 minutes, and my after work day-to-night transformation down to about the same. What’s more is women started asking me about the funny jars and tubes I was always carrying with me. I expanded my test to my girlfriends and colleagues. They all noticed how universal the colors were. They magically looked beautiful on whoever tried them. BARE Natur-ALL became a reality.

Are your products organic?
You cannot get organic status for a mine – therefore no, we do not call our products organic. Technically, no mineral makeup brand can call themselves organic. That being said, where it is possible to produce an organic product – e.g. our NEW primer, then we make sure that it is 100% certified organic.
Many cosmetic companies label their products as organic, because the product contains some organic ingredients – but they don’t tell you what PERCENTAGE of the product is organic. And sometimes this percentage is very small. Meanwhile the consumer thinks they’re using a completely organic product.
At BARE Natur-ALL, we believe strongly in being completely transparent in listing our ingredients and not misleading the consumer in any way. Therefore, although we frequently use organic ingredients in our products, because 90 percent of that product is made up of minerals –we do not label our products as organic.
Your products are vegan. Does that mean that your company promotes veganism?
BARE Natur-ALL believes in CHOICES. Our company does not promote any kind of diet, but we do want to provide an all natural product that appeals to women everywhere – even those that are often limited by their health, ethical, environmental or dietary beliefs. While we were setting about making an all natural makeup brand, we thought about how great it would be if that brand was something that vegans could enjoy as well.
How do you get such bright colors in your eyeshadows if your products are completely natural?
Light is shone through the iron oxides, captured and then milled. Much like how you shine light through a crystal and you get all different colors. The process is called light refraction.
I’ve never used a loose powder foundation – how are you supposed to use it?
BARE Natur-ALL foundations are in a loose powder format, which might be new to you, but is actually extremely easy to apply – simply press, tap and blend by following the steps below.
1. Tap a small amount of foundation powder into the pot lid.
2. Press the Kabuki brush into the powder, working the powder into the bristles to ensure a light, but even coating.
3. Tap off any excess into the lid. The purity of BARE Natur-ALL pigments means you only need a very small amount of product to achieve flawless coverage.
4. Turn the bristles up and tap brush against a hard surface to settle the powder into the bristles
5. Blend the powder onto the face using downward strokes, building up in layers to achieve the level of coverage you desire. For heavier coverage, use a circular buffing motion.
How do you make a vegan lipstick?
It is EXTREMELY hard to create a vegan lipstick! The fact that we have been able to produce a vegan lipstick that is completely natural while giving incredible color and performance is one of our greatest achievements!
One of the core ingredients in most lipsticks is a chemical called propylene glycol. This is not a desirable ingredient, suspected of causing a number of health problems according to Peter Dingle’s “Dangerous Beauty” (1999), including liver and kidney abnormalities, eye and skin irritations and adverse reproductive effects. It has also been shown to be a carcinogen in experimental animal trials. It is however a “humectant”, that is used to keep lipsticks “moist”.
It is very challenging to make a lipstick without this that is still creamy and moist. What natural companies will often use to replace this is honey, but as all our products are vegan, we could not rely on bee derivatives.
Instead we have used a combination of oils to deliver the same thing and the result is a beautifully creamy, luxurious lipstick available in 8 gorgeous shades!
Why are your products okay to use after cosmetic surgery and facial procedures? Isn’t it bad to put on any makeup when your skin has been through a procedure?
Mineral makeup is the only kind of makeup recommended for use after cosmetic or facial procedures. Because of the purity of BARE Natur-ALL’s ingredients, it is EXTREMELY gentle on the skin. Also the minerals in BARE Natur-ALL products have soothing properties for the skin and also help to hide redness.
Am I guaranteed NOT to have an allergic reaction to BARE Natur-ALL products?
While you are far less likely to have an allergic reaction to BARE Natur-ALL products than a mainstream cosmetic brand, it is still possible for certain people to be allergic to certain minerals or natural ingredients.
What does BARE Natur-ALL do to ensure that it is “gentle to the earth”?
Firstly, the natural nature of BARE Natur-ALL cosmetics means there is significantly less environmental damage producing our products than mainstream cosmetic brands.
Also, all cardboard used in BARE Natur-ALL packaging is recycled, as is any paper stock used for promotional pamphlets and material.
Aren’t minerals MINED from the ground? Isn’t mining bad for the environment?
Mining does have the potential to disturb the natural environment, however the world still relies heavily on substances that are mined and indeed it would be impossible to create mineral makeup without somehow extracting those minerals from the earth. In the past, little attention was given to the protection of the environment in mining, or any other industry for that matter. Today however, environmental protection is paramount in modern mining activities to ensure the safe and responsible use of our precious mineral resources.
